Week 49 in Italy

Well folks this week was FULL, of cancellations. Managia. But cancellations happen. Andiamo avanti.

Despite the cancellations, we had several miracles! We currently have 3 investigators with baptismal dates. This past week, we were able to contact a member referral named Alta Gracia. We taught her for the first time on thursday and during the lesson the spirit was so strong. She said that she felt like the things we were teaching were true. She then started to ask us about the commandments that we have to follow. So we introduced the word of wisdom, the law of chastity, the law of tithing, and finished it off with baptism. She was so into it that we ended up setting a date with her! She accepted and we have already seen her a second time and have our third visit planned. MIRACLES.

Over all it was an awesome week! Through sincere prayer and fasting, God gives us miracles. There will always be opposition, but when we have strong faith, we can see those tender mercies that will ALWAYS come.

I love you guys! Have a great week.

In other news, I actually love onions and peppers now. What? I have trained my body to not die every time I eat them. Annnd. We learned this awesome breathing thing that our nepalese friend Mahesh does. It was super fun and I'm on my way to a six pack. Thanks Mahesh! We also had a super yummy filipino food lunch on sunday after church. Thanks filipino members! (so yeah it's a long road to the six pack.)

Be good!

Week 48 in Italy

Well it's been an awesome week!!! We have seen several miracles. We set two baptismal dates this past week and both of them are currently reading and praying about the book of mormon. We are so excited to continue watching these two wonderful women progress.

We also had a great scambio this week! I was with Sorella Warren. She is wonderful. She speaks fairly well already and has a lot of faith. We had a great time together.

Mercedes is doing well. She is working hard on her family. I know it will be a slow process but she is doing her part!

President called us on Friday night and I was a little worried. He started out the conversation with, "Well Sister Tokarski, I'm making transfer calls a little bit early tonight." And my heart dropped!! But then he told me I would be able to stay and finish training sister Burgess here in Cimiano, but that I would be now serving as a Sister Training leader. That basically just means that I get to go on exchanges with several other sisters, do some training at zone training, and get to participate in mission council. Usually, they have companionships of sister training leaders. But recently, President has just been calling single sister training leaders that are also training to fill that role. So here we go! Say some prayers! I am excited for the opportunity to serve and learn from several other sisters. It will be a great opportunity to rely more fully on my Savior Jesus Christ and to help out my fellow sisters! I look forward to working more closely with the other mission leadership in the upcoming months.

Life is great! The mission is great! The gospel is true!

I have gained a strong testimony of the necessity to take care of and look out for each other. We are all brothers and sisters trying to get back to the same home in Heaven. We need to love and serve those around us. Selfishness is absolutely contrary to the will of God. Get rid of it!!

I love you all! Have a great week!!!

Week 47 in Italy

We had the most beautiful and crazy stressful fast week! Mercedes was baptized on Saturday and it was the most spiritual baptism I've ever seen. Her husband and sister and daughter and a few grandkids came to support her. She didn't think anyone would come, and especially not her husband. Right after she came out of the water, we were in the back waiting for her, and all she could say was "I'm born! I'm born" She explained to us how she was feeling and the joy and peace that was filling her heart. She cried and was overcome with gratitude.  At the end of the baptism, she got to bare her testimony. She spoke the most simple and powerful testimony that she knows the gospel is true and that she wants the same happiness and joy for her family. Each of them shed tears and embraced her at the end. It was amazing. We look forward to slowly starting to teach her family and include them in her happiness and peace.

It was just a really satisfying week. We have received over 8 referrals this past week and we have so many potential people to teach. We were at a less active members house yesterday for lunch and she called up her friend on the phone and set an appointment right then and there for us to teach her! We will be seeing her tomorrow. I am so grateful for the many miracles that we have been blessed to see every day this week. Even today on p-day, the ladies in the gelatoria were asking us about who we were, so we taught them a few short points about the restoration and answered their questions. I am just so grateful for endless opportunities to teach. It's such a blessing.

I am so tired. Words can't describe it. But it is so fulfilling to be exhausted in the service of the Lord.

I still have much improvement to make, but I am grateful for the many small improvements that this mission has helped me to make.

My greenie is awesome! She is learning and growing and we are having a great time together. She teaches me a lot every day.

I am grateful for the love and support.

We are praying for those in france. We are all brothers and sisters and it hurts my heart so see so much violence and so much hatred. We need to just love each other and accept our differences.

Have a great week! Hug someone you love! Compliment someone you don't know! Smile at everyone.

Week 46 in Italy

Well well well. It's been about a year.. Weird! The time is just flying by. And I just get more and more sentimental with each passing month. Anyway. I have done a lot of reflecting and thinking about my mission and about who I am as a missionary. It is easy to get into a rut. It's easy to let things slide. It's easy to make excuses. It's easy to just pass right through. But what on earth is the point of a mission if you just pass through it?? I can't say that I am a perfect missionary. Nor would I dare say that I will be a perfect missionary by the end. But I can honestly say that I seek to follow the spirit and I try to be obedient to the rules and the commandments of God. I repent every single night. I set goals every single week of how I can improve and things that I can change to be a better and more effective tool in the Lord's capable hand. I sometimes set the same goal over and over again each week until I have finally been able to accomplish it.

I have learned a lot in this past year. I have gained a deep and abiding testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I have read the Book of Mormon twice and I am about to finish it for the third time on my mission. I have fallen, physically (just ask any of my companions about how often that happens), spiritually, mentally. But I have also felt the sustaining power and strength of the atonement. I have seen miracles. Sooooooooo many miracles. I have sobbed my eyes out watching others deny God and Jesus Christ. I have seen some of the most difficult circumstances that I have ever seen in my life. I have worked with amazing people, missionaries, investigators, less actives, members. I have truly been changed for the better by those that I have been blessed to work closely with. I have experienced the most joy and the most sorrow I've ever felt in my life here on my mission. I love this mission that Heavenly Father has blessed me with, and I wouldn't change a moment of it. I know that I have so much more to still change and improve. I need to be more patient, more knowledgeable, more service oriented, more charitable, more obedient, more selfless. I am far from the ideal or perfect missionary. But I will try every day to improve and become better.

This has been a wonderful week. We had a fun new years breakfast in church! We have eaten SO much food. But more than all the great fun stuff we've done this week, We have truly seen God's hand in His work. We have been seeing so many new possible investigators just come out of the woodwork! We have been fasting and praying to find new people to teach and God is really answering our prayers right now. We have received two referrals from members this week of whom we have already met and set return appointments!

We have also been having incredible success working with some of our young single adult members. We have been inviting some of these young sisters to come out with us and they have willingly accepted! There are about 5 of them that come with us and that have mentioned thinking about serving a mission. We talked to the bishop about starting a mission prep type course for them and he thought it was a great idea! So my companion and I are just SOO excited to start helping these young women continue the process of preparing themselves for missionary service! It has brought me so much joy and every time that I talk with one of them about it, they start to get more excited, which in turn makes me even more excited! It's so fun.

Mercedes will be getting baptized on Saturday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Words cannot describe the joy i feel in my soul for her. I love her so much and she is SO ready. After her interview, our mission president said to us, "SHE is well prepared... She is VERY ready to be baptized." And I just get teary eyed every time I think about her and how proud and excited I know her father is on the other side. He isn't here physically, but I know that he has played a huge part in her conversion. I am so grateful that I have had the privilege of working with her and helping her along this path back to her Heavenly Father.

I really love being a missionary. I just want to be better and continue to be more of a preach my gospel missionary. I love leading the 12 week program because it really helps and inspires me to change and to become a better missionary and disciple of Christ.
We had a great zone training this week and my companion and I are working hard to implement good traditions and notice maybe not so good traditions that we can get rid of so that we can work more effectively!!

I know that the gospel is true. I know that The Book of Mormon is true. I know that Jesus Christ lives and is our savior. I know that the family unit is eternal and God has a plan laid out for each of His children to return back to Him. I know that Joseph Smith is a prophet and that through him, Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ restored their priesthood, and today we have that authority to baptize, to bless, to heal, to perform all of the ordinances necessary for salvation. I will never be able to negate or deny my testimony. I plan to share the gospel with everyone I know for the rest of my life. I have seen and felt it change me. It would be selfish to keep the blessings of salvation and eternal joy all to myself.

I love you all! Thank you so much for your support and prayers.

Love,
Sorella Tokarski
